Refuge des Écrins

Refuge des Écrins is a staffed backcountry refuge in the Écrins massif, operated by Club Alpin Français. It sits at about 3,161 m and is part of the classic access system for high-mountain routes around the Barre des Écrins and nearby peaks, using the Glacier Blanc for the approach to the hut.

The refuge’s capacity is 116 beds (40 outside the guarded period). During the guarded season it operates from 14 March to 20 September 2026, with reservations required; it’s also equipped with a winter room. Mattress bedding and cold-weather capability are key in the non-guarded period: outside guarding there are covers available but no heating, and you should plan on no water and no toilets.
