Refuge des Fontainiers

Refuge des Fontainiers is a small backcountry hut near Embrun, managed by the Town Hall of Embrun. It’s an unstaffed hut with sleeping space for 5 people and simple interior furnishings (table and sleeping planks; no mattresses).

Access is controlled by the town: the hut is closed to casual access and requires a key obtained from the Mairie d'Embrun in exchange for identification. The route to reach the hut starts from Embrun, drives up to Caléyère, then continues to the end of the road at the Porte de la Forêt parking area (1587 m); from there, you hike to the refuge following a path that links up with the Fontainiers track near the hut. The hut has a chimney, and there is a spring above the refuge near a nearby private chalet.
