Refuge des Sources
Refuge des Sources is a small unguarded mountain hut in the Écrins National Park, on the approach to the Rochail summit near Villard-Notre-Dame. It’s a basic communal stop with very limited shelter capacity—6 mattresses and a table with benches/stools—so plan to arrive self-sufficient for a night in austere conditions.
Expect no running water, electricity, or toilets. A wood stove is present but not usable, and using fire indoors is strictly prohibited. The hut is for foot access only: the climb from Villard-Notre-Dame is about 3 hours (plan closer to 4 with a loaded pack) with roughly 800 m of elevation gain; use the southern path from the hairpin bend just below the village toward the Vallon du Rochail.
Reservations are required, and the nightly rate is about €5 per person. Pets are not accepted.
