Refuge du Col de Vassieux

Refuge du Col de Vassieux (also known as Refuge Hexagonal) is an unmanaged, free mountain hut at about 1,360 m on the Vercors. It’s a small, hexagonal wooden shelter (single room) used for overnight stops, with sleeping space intended for roughly 20 people.

Inside, expect a communal room layout with benches/table and a wood-burning stove; bring your own sleeping bag and sleeping mat since there are no mattresses or bedding provided. There’s no drinking water source in the hut—water is reached by foot from nearby springs, including the Fontaine du Plainet (about a 15-minute walk).

With no reservation and no caretaker, use is first-come, first-served; if it’s full, have a backup plan such as continuing to a different shelter or setting up elsewhere outside the hut. The hut has a stove but no fireplace, and it does not have toilets or showers.
