Refuge du Couvercle
Refuge du Couvercle is a Fédération française des clubs alpins et de montagne (FFCAM) backcountry hut in the Mont Blanc massif near Chamonix-Mont-Blanc, at 2,683 m. It is managed by the FFCAM with a guarded period from the beginning of April to the end of September, and it offers 64 bunks during the guarded season.
The hut is linked to classic glacier travel in the area: access is from the Montenvers train to the Mer de Glace, then two routes continue by glacier paths—either the Balcons de la Mer de Glace or the Pas des Égralets. The refuge was inaugurated on 29 August 1932, and its capacity was reduced from 128 to 64 for the 2022 re-opening after renovations carried out between 2020 and 2022.
