Refuge du Marais
Refuge du Marais is a backcountry hut near Saint-Martin-d’Uriage (Les Amis de la Nature), set at about 1,110 m/1,116 m under Chamrousse in the Belledonne area. It’s managed for short and long stays and is reached off the Route de Chamrousse to the Les Seiglières sector (Chemin du Marais au Bit).
Sleeping capacity is 15 people, with a 9-bed dorm plus additional rooms (a double/single room and a 3-bed room). The hut has full sanitary facilities and a hot shower, and it runs on solar power (including a solar fridge). Cooking facilities include gas stoves, plus wood heating; hot water is provided by an on-site water heater.
Use requires booking. Reservations are handled by the hut’s contacts by phone or email rather than an online booking portal, and the local association manages the refuge. The refuge operates in the main summer season, opening from 1 May to 15 October (with recent seasonal info indicating a May–late October window).
For getting there by transport, it’s about 25 km from Grenoble by rail and roughly the same distance to the Grenoble road-bus area serving Chamrousse. In the hut area, vehicle access is regulated because it sits in a sensitive natural zone; there is free parking nearby, and pets are not accepted.
