Refuge du Merlet

Refuge du Merlet is a small, unstaffed backcountry cabin in the Belledonne/Allevard area, set at about 1,940 m. It’s a one-room refuge with sleeping platforms and a wood stove.

Overnight stays are not booked in advance; plan on first-come, first-served use. The hut has water available close by and a fireplace/stove for heating, with capacity listed at around 8 people (with mattresses provided). Access is typically via the Vallon du Veyton; the trail is marked “GR de pays” up to the refuge and the usual hike time is about 3h30 from the valley. In winter, wood can be scarce nearby—carry what you need and expect harder conditions.
