Refuge du Plan de l'Aar

Refuge du Plan de l'Aar is a small backcountry hut in the Praz-sur-Arly area (run by alpagistes) used as a mountain pasture farm stop for hikers and mountain bikes in summer. It sits around 1,735 m and sleeps up to 18 people in a limited-capacity setting.

The refuge runs on a seasonal schedule from mid-June to mid-September, with online booking. Half-board is priced at €45 per person (groups of 10+ at €40 per person) and a night is €18 per person; breakfast and takeaway picnic options are also offered during the same period. Meals include a short list of regional items such as tomme fritters, farcement, croziflettes, reblochonnades, and blueberry/raspberry tarts.

During the visit, you can also get packed lunches/picnics to go (for refuge residents) and have access to water; hot water for a thermos is available. Blankets and free hot showers are provided, and the beds are bunk-style. The refuge is a good base for GR route hiking, trail running, cycling, and pedestrian routes in the local area.

Animals are part of the experience on the pasture, and pets may be accepted if requested when booking and approved by other guests. A tent can be put up, and overnight-only stays without meals are allowed (confirm details when booking for your date).
