Refuge du Storkenkopf

Refuge du Storkenkopf (Captain Hisel) is a small, unstaffed backcountry hut in the Vosges area, used for in-between stopovers while crossing the high ridges (between the Grand Ballon and the Markstein). It’s designed mainly for sleeping over in a tight space and is fitted for a basic night halt with a fireplace/large chimney (no lock).

The hut has room for about 3 people and includes a table with benches. There is a chimney for making a fire (it’s possible to have warmth, but insulation is limited), plus basic shelter elements like a door and interior fire provision; it’s also equipped with items such as fireplace fittings plus cutting equipment and a small wood reserve may be present depending on the latest arrivals.
