Refuge ferme d'Ambel
Refuge ferme d'Ambel is an unstaffed backcountry hut in the Drôme, operated by the Conseil Général de la Drôme. It’s set in a large stone farmhouse with multiple floors and a wood stove/poêle for heating and cooking.
The hut sleeps up to 24 people (with no mattresses provided). A wood reserve is available, and there’s a wood stove/poêle; a fireplace is not provided. Dry toilets are present, but there’s no shower.
There’s a firewood/poêle setup and an external water source in the area (a fountain is about 10 m from the entrance). Use is limited to one night per person, bivouacking is only allowed near the refuge, and fires are strictly prohibited. Dogs are not allowed, and water is not monitored—plan to bring/verify your own water as needed. Use is free and no reservation is required.
