Relax Shelter

Relax Shelter (also known as Relaxation Rocks Hut) is a small backcountry shelter in Nelson Lakes National Park on the slopes of Mt. Robert. It sits at about 1,422 m and works mainly as a brief rest stop while moving through the Robert Ridge country toward Angelus Hut.

Built by Nelson Ski Club members in 1957 and refurbished in 2014, the shelter has seating plus a small stainless-steel table and windows, with space for roughly 2 people. A water tank supplies the shelter’s water needs (roof water into the tank).

Typical access is via the steep Pinchgut Track from the Mt. Robert car park, with about an hour’s hike up to reach the shelter. Use it as a practical windbreak/gear-change stop when conditions on the ridge are shifting fast.
