Shakes Slough Number 2 Cabin
Shakes Slough Number 2 Cabin is a US Forest Service backcountry cabin in the Tongass National Forest, part of the Shakes Slough cabins on the Stikine River. The cabin is an A-frame measuring 16' x 16', built with a sleeping loft and a partially covered front porch, and it sleeps up to 7 people.
Inside are two single bunks (one with a trundle) plus a wooden table and benches, along with an oil space heater that uses No. 1 oil. There is an outhouse and a bear-proof food locker on the porch; water is not provided (bring your own drinking water). Reservations are required, with prices and availability handled through the official Recreation.gov facility listing.
Access is by float plane or shallow-draft boat and depends on tides and river conditions; a tide of at least 14 feet is required to navigate the Stikine River tide flats. From Wrangell, it’s about 20 miles by float plane or about 25 miles by shallow-draft boat, and the river is normally ice-free from May to October.
