Soper Shelter

Soper Shelter is a historic tent-style replica hut in Kahurangi National Park (Golden Bay area), run by the Department of Conservation. Built in April 2016 by the Golden Bay Alpine Tramping Club and DOC staff, it’s a compact stop for overnighting with open-fire heat (one open fire) and basic pit-latrine toilets nearby.

Use is first come, first served with no bookings required; it has 2 bunk beds, and there’s no drinking water supplied. The shelter is named after Frank and Berna Soper. DOC also lists nearby hut options including Anatoki Forks Hut (4–5 hr) and Waingaro Forks Hut (4–5 hr).
