Tiraumea Hut

Tiraumea Hut is a Department of Conservation backcountry hut in Nelson Lakes National Park (Nelson/Tasman). It’s a standard 6-bunk hut used for overnighting in the Nelson Lakes area—good when you want a basic base in the backcountry rather than a serviced stop.

Use is first come, first served for the 6 bunk beds, and bookings aren’t required. Fees apply: adult (18+) $10 per night, youth (5–17) $5 per night, and children/infants (0–4) are free; for stays, buy a Standard Hut Ticket for each night and place it in the honesty box at the hut, or use a Backcountry Hut Pass that covers unlimited use at most Standard and Serviced huts for a 12-month period. The hut provides mattresses, a fireplace, and toilets (pit latrine), but it doesn’t have drinking water—plan to bring or treat your own water.
