Top Wairoa hut

Top Wairoa Hut is a standard 6-bunk backcountry hut in Mount Richmond Forest Park (Nelson/Tasman region), run by the Department of Conservation. Use is intended for straightforward hut stays in the Motueka area, with 6 beds available on a first-come, first-served basis (no standard bookings required).

Basic hut basics for planning: fees apply ($10 per night for adults 18+, $5 for ages 5–17, and free for ages 0–4). Before going, buy a Standard Hut Ticket for each night and place it in the honesty box at the hut; alternatively, use a Backcountry Hut Pass for unlimited use at most Standard and Serviced huts for a 12-month period. The hut has mattresses, a fireplace, and toilets with pit latrine disposal; there’s no drinking water provided.
