Trout Pond South Lean-To
Trout Pond South Lean-To is a primitive backcountry lean-to on the Trout Pond area of the Delaware Wild Forest in the Catskill Mountains, New York. Use is first-come, first-served with no advance reservation process; if the shelter is taken, primitive campsites are also available around Trout Pond.
The lean-to setup includes a pit privy. Bring your own water treatment and plan on obtaining water from backcountry sources—treat all water you drink or cook with. Reaching the Trout Pond area is typically done via the Russell Brook Road trailhead or by hiking the Trout Pond Trail.
Camping nearby centers on Trout Pond’s shore campsites, with multiple lean-to/camping options around the pond. The Trout Pond Trail runs between DEC parking areas off Campbell Mountain Road and Russell Brook Road, and it is commonly paired with nearby sections such as Mud Pond via connecting trails.
