Yellowknife Ski Club
Route Details
Yellowknife Ski Club is a backcountry wall tent shelter used by club members on Banting Lake. The tent is a 16Γ14 canvas structure with a plywood floor and a wood stove for overnight stays.
Use is restricted to Yellowknife Ski Club members, and booking is for one or more nights from 1:00 PM until noon on the last day. Membership allows the tent to be used for free.
For self-sufficiency, the tent is set up with basic overnight gear and cooking items, including a Coleman stove and lantern; bring your own sleeping bags, sleeping pads, food, candles/lantern light source, toilet paper supplies, and pressurized fuel if you plan to use the Coleman stove. There is no maintained trail to the tent frame; navigation is required, and a personal communication device is recommended due to inconsistent cell coverage. Parking is available at Vee Lake Parking lot, about 10 km from the tent frame.
Operational rules focus on leaving the site serviceable: dump used dish/other water behind and to the right of the tent, sweep out before leaving, leave some kindling/wood, close the door, report any needed repairs, take all garbage, and empty the water pails to prevent cracking.
