Video North Bowl

Classic Rogers Pass alpine bowl on the N side of Video Peak. Broad lee bowl with a rocky hourglass choke up high, then opens into sheltered glades. Expect wind-loading from prevailing SW flow and frequent stiff wind slabs on the entry. Overhead cornices and convex rolls are common; manage exposure and regroup out of runouts.

Approach from the Rogers Pass Discovery Centre on the Connaught Creek winter trail, then up the well-used Hospital Bowl uptrack to the SE side of Video. Gain the summit ridge, then drop N into the bowl. Many parties avoid flushing to Ursus Creek by traversing to the Bruins Glacier and climbing to 8812 Col, then exiting down 8812 Bowl to the Connaught luge.

Hazards: wind slab on the upper face, rocky choke, large alpine starts feeding terrain traps lower down. Strict winter access controls exist here—artillery avalanche control closes terrain routinely. Carry and know avalanche rescue gear; check the avalanche bulletin and daily area status before committing.

Timing: best with cold, settled snow and decent vis. Avoid during active control or poor stability. Winter Permit is mandatory for Restricted Areas; use designated winter parking as posted. See current status, permits, and maps at Parks Canada.
