Barron Saddle Hut
Barron Saddle Hut is a serviced alpine hut in Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park, run by the Department of Conservation. It’s a compact, eight-bed hut where you don’t need to make a booking—use is first come, first served.
You can expect a daily radio check-in and weather update for Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park alpine huts, scheduled for 6:45 pm. Fees are $25 per night ($12.50 for New Zealand Alpine Club members), paid at the Aoraki/Mount Cook Visitor Centre; Backcountry Hut Passes and Backcountry Hut Tickets can’t be used here. The hut has mattresses, drinking water is untreated, and there’s a pit latrine toilet system; there’s no fireplace.
