Birdcage Hut

Birdcage Hut is a historic backcountry hut used as a ski-touring and hunting stop in the Cass Valley area west of Lake Tekapo. It sits on the Glenmore Station side of access, so reaching it depends on the station’s 4WD tracks and permissions rather than standard public conservation access.

Use is arranged through Glenmore Station’s private leaseholders, with advance booking required for stays (including for ski touring or hunting). Glenmore Station controls access into the Cass Valley; the Cass River approach is also described as access that requires permission from the station when using the 4WD access tracks.
