Bergerie de Chabrière

Bergerie de Chabrière is a backcountry shepherd’s shelter at 2,340 m in the Ubaye high pastures. It has a small capacity (5 beds total) and is not equipped like a managed refuge.

Summer use is taken over by the shepherds (August and September), so it is unavailable for hikers during the summer occupation. Outside the summer period, a small annex remains open as a free, unmanaged sleeping space: it has a narrow seating/sleeping area, a small table, and a wood stove. A bit of water is available nearby (but should be treated). The main shepherd’s section is closed outside summer; access to the upper sleeping area is from the back, where there is a small dormitory with about 4–5 mattresses.
