Burnt Bush Hut

Burnt Bush Hut is a private musterers’ hut in Otago, New Zealand, owned by Longslip Station. It sleeps 6 people (6 bunks) and is available only with explicit prior permission from the station owners—there’s a track sign warning that there is no public access without permission.

Inside, expect a small backcountry setup: mattresses are provided, and the hut has cookers plus an open fire and heating. Water is available from a nearby water source, and there’s no reliable cell coverage in the immediate area. For access, arrange permission in advance; if you arrive without it, you may be turned away. Bring your own food and backcountry supplies, and be ready to manage waste and leave the hut clean for the next users.
