Deep Creek Hut

Deep Creek Hut is a basic six-bunk backcountry hut in the Pisa Conservation Area, used for multiday trips in the Wanaka/Makarora area. It’s a one-room corrugated-iron structure and was restored to its original form, including a stone fireplace; the walls include historic graffiti from the early 1900s. It’s managed by the Department of Conservation and use is free, with no bookings required—plan on first come, first served.

The hut is equipped for sleeping (mattresses provided) and has toilets (pit latrine). Drinking water isn’t provided and there’s no fireplace. For route planning and updates, use the hut page via the provided official link.
