Cabane de Caussis

Cabane de Caussis is an unguarded backcountry shelter at about 1859 m, reached on foot along the GR Transfrontalier. It’s a small, open hut with a fireplace, a nearby water source, and sleeping space on a “bas-flanc” platform sized for about 3 people; it’s possible to sleep upstairs, but without an internal ladder.

The hut is set up for basic emergencies rather than comfort: there’s no firewood provided, and the main partition between sections is missing and replaced by a tarp (so plan for drafts). From the Pla de Lau parking, expect roughly a 3-hour uphill approach following the GR Transfrontalier toward Refuge des Estagnous; huts like this are also typically maintained by voluntary contributions rather than paid reservations.
