Cabane de la Petite Saume
Cabane de la Petite Saume is a small, unstaffed backcountry shelter in the Mercantour area, used as an autogestion stop for overnighting on mountain routes. It sits at about 2,070 m and is run with an informal, first-come approach rather than advance booking.
Inside, it provides sleeping for 4 people on mattresses, with a wood stove for heat; there’s also a torrent just below the cabin. The shelter has no fireplace chimney and no latrines.
Bring your own sleeping bag and mountain supplies—cabane use is basic, and the stove burns wood (there may be local fuel, but don’t count on full stocks). Because it’s unguarded, arriving early matters if you want a bunk.
