Cabane de Lauzeron - Ustou

Cabane de Lauzeron - Ustou is a small, unstaffed pastoral shelter in the Couserans area near Port de Salau (Ustou). It’s a simple base intended mainly for shepherd/working use, with basic facilities and sleeping on the floor rather than staffed refuge services.

Use is typically first-come, first-served with no reservation system for hikers. It can be locked or closed during the summer period when it’s reserved for shepherds, so plan on carrying a backup option (or being ready to keep moving to a staffed refuge if it’s not accessible).

The shelter has a wood-burning stove and access to water. Summer capacity is 2 people (and 2 in winter), so expect a tight fit—bring your own food and sleeping gear (and treat it as basic shelter rather than a guarded refuge).

If you’re depending on it for a night, build in an alternate stopping point nearby.
