Cabane de l'Étang d'Embizon

Cabane de l'Étang d'Embizon is a non-staffed backcountry hut in the French Pyrenees, used as shelter during the summer pastoral period by a shepherd. It’s a small cabin with 4 sleeping spaces on mattresses, arranged on the sleeping ledges (bat-flanc), plus a fixed table, stools, and a fireplace.

Plan to be self-sufficient: there’s no stove, and there’s no mention of cooking gear. The hut description notes no firewood around, so you’ll need to bring your own dry wood (or collect wood on the way up). Water is present as a nearby runoff/stream or from the pond/stream sources, but it must be treated because the area is used by livestock. Use is essentially first-come, first-served, and it can be occupied by the shepherd from June until the end of September.
