Cabane de Marterat

Cabane de Marterat is an unstaffed backcountry hut operated by the Communauté des communes du Canton d'Oust. It provides 9 sleeping places (with a small-mattress setup) and basic communal furnishings: a table, benches, and a petroleum stove for cooking/heat (you’ll need to bring fuel).

Inside, the hut was renovated in September 2008 and generally is well insulated. There’s typically no water right at the hut; the nearest water is accessed by walking up-slope toward the Port de Marterat area (from the French side), so plan to carry water for the approach and for the period before you reach the higher water point. Recent notes also mention ongoing deterioration and issues with closures/fixtures—expect the hut to be more “utility shelter” than a comfortable base.
