Cabane d'Embanels

Cabane d'Embanels is a small unstaffed wilderness shelter in the Ariège Pyrenees (about 1,180–1,190 m). It’s intended for emergency or short backcountry stays with sleeping capacity for 4 people, centered on a ground-level fireplace and a habitable “grenier” mezzanine area.

Inside, plan on very basic conditions: it’s is quite Spartan and “pretty dirty,” with a chimney and a mezzanine; no stove is provided. Water is available at the river (within about 100 m), and wood is available nearby. There are no blankets provided, so bring your sleeping bag. Access is via driving to the last parking near Rabat-les-Trois-Seigneurs, then a straightforward walk of roughly 1 km to the shelter along the path (don’t cross the river). Use is first-come, first-served with no booking system, and the shelter is not run/managed by a staff team.
