Cabane d'Eychelle

Cabane d'Eychelle is a small, free-use pastoral hut in the Couserans at about 1980 m. It’s open in principle but used by a shepherd in summer, with parts of the interior reserved for their equipment. Expect a basic setup: a fireplace, and sleeping on low ledges plus simple floor mats; there are about 3 sleeping spaces, with mats (and typically a couple of mats/beds) rather than proper bunks.

Inside, you’ll find a table with seating, plus several rudimentary floor mats and at least one mattress. An onboard water capture feeds a trough/basin for livestock; if it’s not flowing, plan to walk farther south (up to around 200 m) to reach the incoming water. The upper level is not usable by hikers because it’s closed off for the shepherd’s storage. Use is unmanaged—no booking system is used and no payment is required; go prepared to manage your own overnight needs and bring fuel/food organization accordingly.
