Alpine hutCabane d'Hortassy is a free, open-access backcountry hut in the French Pyrénées at about 1800 m. It is unstaffed and used seasonally by a shepherd in summer, making it an informal stop that hikers reach and share on a first-come, first-served basis.
the hut is open and winter-friendly, with about 6 places in the winter/closed-season use and a heating setup (including a wood stove/wood availability). Inside you’ll find a sleeping mezzanine plus basic furnishings such as a table and benches; wood and a stove are part of the hut’s typical winter comfort. Keep in mind the hut lies within the Parc national des Pyrénées core zone, where strict environmental rules apply, including a ban on campfires and limitations on bivouacking.
