Cabane du Besset

Cabane du Besset is an unmanaged backcountry shelter on the GR10 in the Ariège (Western Couserans). It’s a small stone/concrete structure used for overnight protection in bad weather, with a fireplace and basic sleeping space; it is not for door-and-window comfort—expect an open, utilitarian shelter built for passing hikers and shepherds.

Sleep is set up for up to 8 people. Interior provisions include a table and benches, with a fireplace for heat and an upper floor with a plank that can take multiple mattresses. Inside there are commonly foam mattresses and older foam bedding; bring what you need for personal comfort and bedding if you want to be fully ready. There’s usually fuel/firewood available some distance down toward the forest, while water may require a short walk to an abreuvoir/tap area rather than being reliable at the shelter itself; plan to fetch and treat water.
