Cabane du Plan de gautier

Cabane du Plan de gautier is a non-guarded backcountry hut at 1,985 m on the Plan de gautier pasture above the Ubaye Valley. It’s maintained mainly as a summer shelter for shepherds, and for hikers it functions as a simple stopover that you treat like a bivouac: bring your own sleeping setup and everything you’ll need to stay. The nearby Plan de gautier is a large pasture protected by an electric fence, so plan around livestock/stock access.

Inside, the hut is having a table with two benches, wood available, and sleeping on an upper level; a stove/heat source is provided, but there’s no fireplace. Practical hut use here means keeping the place tidy and closed up properly, since there’s a note asking visitors to re-close the door and shutters and leave the area clean.
