Cabane du Siscar

Cabane du Siscar is a free, unmanaged emergency shelter in the French Pyrenees (Haute-Ariège) at 2187 m. It sits on the remains of the old dam at Étang du Siscar, inside a small weather-shelter space that’s mainly there to protect you from wind and rain rather than provide a fully serviced mountain-hut experience.

Access is following the Siscar stream from l’Hospitalet près l’Andorre, then reaching the shelter on the dam area at Étang du Siscar. The shelter is very spartan: there’s no fireplace or stove, and it offers limited sleeping provision (commonly is roughly enough for around 8 people, but with extremely sparse interior set-up). Water is within about 100 m.
