Cabane forestière du Caut
Cabane forestière du Caut is an unstaffed backcountry shelter in the Chartreuse massif, used for overnight stays by hikers moving between the nearby forest trails. Use is free and it’s first-come, first-served—there’s no staffed reception or booking process.
The hut is at about 1260 m and is equipped with a wood stove/poêle, plus a table and seating. Expect no running water and no nearby water source; you’ll need to bring what you need for cooking, drinking, and your sleeping setup.
Sleeping is basic: it’s set up for a small group (typically around 5–6 people). Bring a sleeping bag (and a sleeping pad/mattress if you prefer one), and plan to self-manage the space—there are no latrines for the hut itself, and visitors are expected to keep it clean and pack out all waste.
