Cabane pastorale de Mariailles
Cabane pastorale de Mariailles is a small backcountry hut in the Canigou massif area, set at about 1,718 m. It’s a renovated shepherd’s hut but remains very basic inside—no furniture and no heating; the interior has a stone floor and there’s no fireplace or stove provided.
Sleeping provisions are extremely minimal (no blankets), and the hut is having no beds/capacity set for sleeping. Use is typically through reservation managed by the Refuge de Mariailles system; the wider refuge runs from late spring (late April/May) into autumn (through October), with accommodation in dormitories elsewhere at the refuge complex nearby.
the hut is unguarded; plan to be self-sufficient and arrive prepared. For approach, one access described route starts from Vernet-les-Bains, climbs to Casteil, then goes via Col de Jou (parking) and follows marked paths passing Col de Creu and the Col du Cheval Mort; the hut sits slightly below the trail.
