Cabane Pré la Pierre (1740)

Cabane Pré la Pierre (1740) is a small, unguarded backcountry hut in the French Alps, set up as a free emergency stop for hikers passing through. It sleeps 1–2 people properly on two fixed benches, with 3–4 able to shelter in bad weather; the interior is tight (about 4–5 m²).

Access is from the GR tour du Lac de Serre-Ponçon: leave the GR at a cairn and follow a well-traced path about 30 m to the hut, which is attached to the rock. There’s a small stream around 5 m away for water collection (treat/filter before drinking).

The hut is a basic wooden structure with a door that closes properly; the roof is tight, but some gaps in the walls let in airflow while still shielding against rain. No stove or fireplace is provided, and there are no toilet facilities.
