Cabane Serrat del Freser

Cabane Serrat del Freser (also known as Cabane Grimau or Cabane des militaires) is a small, unstaffed stone mountain hut used for overnight stops on the high Pyrenees footpath network. It’s set near the GR T71 area by Roc Grimau, and it’s reached on a straightforward hike route rather than a managed, reservable refuge system.

Use is free and it’s run on a first-come, first-served basis—no bookings or reservations. The hut provides a table and chairs and has about 4 fold-out camp beds (around 4 sleeping spots); camp mattresses are still the practical choice because sleeping gear quality can be poor. Firewood and water are typically available about 300 m to the east; there’s no heating or stove inside, so plan to cook and stay warm with your own gear.

Bring what you need for a fully self-reliant night: water access is nearby but not guaranteed everywhere, and the hut doesn’t provide blankets. In winter and spring the building can accumulate heavy drifted snow—close the door securely when leaving so the interior doesn’t get filled with snow.
