Cabanes d'Ansabère

Cabanes d'Ansabère are unguarded pastoral huts in the Cirque de Lescun area (about 1,557 m). Three small huts sit by impressive rocks, and use is typically free on a first-come, first-served basis (no reservation). In the summer grazing season, the shepherd occupies the larger/“berger” hut, while the huts for hikers are the option for overnight stays.

Sleep capacity is set up for small groups (about 8 people total). The lower hikers’ hut has a door and room for about 3 people; the other hikers’ hut has empty storage and a wood stove. The “berger” hut has sleeping for up to 8 on the upper floor, plus a wood-burning stove and a large table on the ground level. For practical planning, bring your own sleeping gear as the beds use mattresses/platforms; the fireplace/stove support is wood-fired, and there is water nearby (a fountain is outside when the shepherd is away/when accessible).
