Cabanon du Lac de la Grande Léchère
Cabanon du Lac de la Grande Léchère is a backcountry hut at 1,700 m on the Lac de la Grande Léchère side of the Saint-François-Longchamp / Montgellafrey area. It’s run seasonally and used for overnight stays, snacks/meals during the day, and winter access via ski touring or snowshoe routes from nearby starting points.
The hut has dorm-style accommodation (4 to 8 beds per dorm), sleeping up to about 34 guests in total. Overnight use is by reservation for the winter period; in the summer season, it’s accessible by foot from Saint François Longchamp (about 2 hours from Replat) or from Montgellafrey (about 1 hour, summer hiking).
Plan your kit around hut rules and payment methods: drap-sacs are required for sleeping, and payments are by cash or check (no card payments). Winter access is via routes departing Saint François Longchamp (about 2h30 on snowshoes or ski touring) and from the Mollaret area toward Montgellafrey (about 1 hour of rando, depending on conditions).
Summer opening runs roughly from June 1 to September 30, with additional weekend periods in October (including Toussaint week), plus holiday periods into winter; the operator lists 2026 summer hours and specifies that dates and exceptions can vary. Typical rates and meals are offered, including half-board, night-only stays, and separate breakfast/dinner options.
