Compeau Cabin

Compeau Cabin is a public-use wilderness backcountry hut in the Chena River State Recreation Area, operated by Alaska DNR. It’s reached from the Compeau Trailhead on Chena Hot Springs Road, with the cabin located about 2 miles along the Compeau Trail.

The cabin sleeps 6 guests at maximum and has a 5-night stay limit, with check-in/check-out at 12:00pm. Access is seasonal by method: in summer you can use ATV, hiking, or biking; in winter you can reach it by ski, snowshoe, snowmachine, or dog team.

Use is by reservation only. The reservation is made through Reserve America, and the cabin is $125 per night plus a non-refundable $5 transaction fee. A door combination lock is used; after reserving you receive confirmation info to bring to the cabin.

The cabin has a wood stove and is heated by wood (bring your own wood). It also includes a smoke alarm; pets are allowed but must always be on a leash. Firewood is for in-cabin use only, and the cabin rules include that smoking is strictly forbidden in the cabins.
