Stiles Creek Cabin
Stiles Creek Cabin is a backcountry hut in Chena River State Recreation Area, operated by Alaska State Parks. The cabin is on a ridge between Stiles Creek and Fourmile Creek and is set up for overnight backcountry use with a wood stove and basic furnishings including a table, seats, broom and ash scoop, and tools like a saw and axe.
The cabin sleeps up to 6 guests and has a 5-night stay limit; check-in/out time is 12:00pm and pets are allowed (with cleanup required). It uses a wood stove (guests bring their own wood) and has a fire ring and picnic table; there is no nearby water source, so pack in enough water for your stay.
Reservation is required, handled through Reserve America. The fee for the entire hut is $125 per night (starting January 1, 2024), and Reserve America charges a $5 transaction fee.
Access is by seasonal travel mode: summer access is by hiking, mountain bike, or ATV; winter access is by ski, snowshoe, dog team, or snowmachine. The cabin can be reached from two trailheads on Chena Hot Springs Road: the Lower Stiles Creek Trail from Mile 31.6 (8 miles, follow red trail markers) and the Upper Stiles Creek Trail from Mile 36.4 (7 miles, follow red trail markers). Alaska State Parks recommends the Mile 31.6 trailhead for winter due to difficult conditions on the Mile 36.4 route.
During spring breakup (early April through late May), the Stiles Creek Trail is closed to all but foot traffic.
