Fontaine Noire
Fontaine Noire is an unguided backcountry hut in the Belledonne area that’s used on a free, first-come first-served basis. The hut sits at about 1450 m and functions as a communal cabane non gardée style shelter for night stops. Sleeping space is commonly around 18 people (mattresses), supported by a large stove and basic cooking setup.
Inside, expect a wood/coal stove and simple cooking equipment, plus tables and benches. There’s a nearby water point, and the hut also includes toilets. Use is free and no reservations are taken; bring your own sleeping system and plan to help keep the shelter clean (carry out your waste and conserve wood for the stove).
