Harry Gates Hut
Harry Gates Hut is a 10th Mountain Division Hut Association wilderness backcountry hut at 9,700 feet. It sleeps up to 16 people and is equipped with mattresses and a wood stove/wood heat, plus a wood-oven option; there’s an outhouse (no sauna, no shower). Use is set up for multi-season hut trips with winter and summer access.
Reservations are required, and there is a $40/person/night rate (children 12 and under get 50% off). The hut provides supplies such as firewood, starter paper, matches, and axes, plus kitchen items for cooking and eating; plan around limited water logistics (snow collection buckets for melting snow in winter). In the area, the official route guidance also includes hut approaches from Montgomery Flats Trailhead (winter mileage 6.1), plus longer winter options from Spring Creek Trailhead and Sylvan Lake Trailhead.
