Haurangi Hut
Haurangi Hut is a serviced DOC backcountry hut in Catchpool Valley and Ōrongorongo Valley within Remutaka Forest Park (Wellington/Kapiti region). It’s a locked sole-occupancy 10-bunk hut, so you book ahead to get the access code for the stay. On arrival, your booking is for a bunk bed (not a specific bunk), and you’ll select the bunk on site.
Facilities include a gas cooking hob with pots, pans, crockery, and cooking utensils; cold tap water; wood heating; and a composting toilet. You’ll also want candles or a torch for lighting, plus matches or a lighter. Fees apply (for up to 10 people) and Backcountry Hut Passes and Backcountry Hut Tickets can’t be used here. The hut is in an area where fire restrictions may apply; check current fire status before lighting any fire.
