Junction Hut
Junction Hut is a standard six-bunk backcountry hut in the Kopuwai Conservation Area (Otago), run by the Department of Conservation alongside a private owner. It’s first come, first served, with no standard bookings required; bring the hut ticket you’ll need for each night and place it in the honesty box at the hut.
The hut is closed for the autumn muster from 1 April to the second week of May. There is a walking-access easement to reach the hut, and the hut includes sleeping gear and a fireplace, plus toilets with pit-latrine disposal. Fees apply (adult $10 per night, youth $5 per night, child/infant free), and no bookings are required beyond buying the relevant hut ticket for your stay.
