Lauder Basin Hut

Lauder Basin Hut is a basic two-bunk hut in the Lauder Basin Conservation Area in Otago, run by the Department of Conservation. It’s set up for backcountry overnight stays on a first-come, first-served basis—no bookings are required—and use is free.

The hut has two bunks (mattresses provided) and toilets with a pit latrine disposal system. No fireplace is provided, so plan for cooking and warmth using your own stove and clothing suitable for Central Otago conditions.
