Leadville Backcountry Yurts
Leadville Backcountry Yurts are private backcountry alpine yurts set above the Empire Reservoir at about 12,000 ft, used for summer and winter recreation. The yurts sit in the backcountry and are not accessible from town or Ski Cooper; in summer they can be reached with a high-clearance 4-wheel drive vehicle over a rough, steep road in spots, while in winter the trek is for more experienced skiers due to extreme conditions and the yurts are not for very beginners.
They are operated as a yurt system with the Marceline and Emma yurts, and they’re positioned as a base camp for activities such as hiking, mountain biking, skiing, snowshoeing, horseback riding, hunting, wildlife viewing/photography, and hunting/photography in season. No snowmobiles are requested, and reservations, rates, and routes are handled through the operator’s website.
