Sangree M. Froelicher Hut

Sangree M. Froelicher Hut is a 10th Mountain Division Hut Association backcountry wilderness hut with winter and summer access. It sits at 11,650 ft and has capacity for 16 people. Reservations are required and there is a $40/person/night rate; children 12 and under get 50% off.

The hut is run as an overnight base with an outhouse toilet and no shower. Sleeping is in an upstairs mix of 1 room with 4 single beds, 1 room with 3 single beds, and a communal sleeping area with 10 beds. Heating is provided with wood (including a wood-fired oven), and the hut has no fire ring; there is also no sauna and no dog policy.

For staying inside, mattresses and pillows are provided, and the hut offers basic supplies such as firewood plus a starter set (paper/matches/axes) and kitchen items for cooking and eating. Water is handled with a roof-top cistern feeding a hand pump (suggested for cleaning) and snowmelt for drinking in winter; there is also a snow collection setup for melting snow. In warm months, the approach is via hiking or biking along the marked winter ski trail, while summer vehicle access via Mt. Zion Road is described as extremely rough and not recommended (vehicle access is never guaranteed).
