Madison Spring Hut

Madison Spring Hut is an AMC backcountry alpine hut in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, set above treeline in the Presidential Range between Mount Adams and Mount Madison. It’s a hike-in hut reached via the Valley Way Trail from the Appalachia Trailhead (3.8 miles, about 3–5 hours; strenuous), and it operates as a full-service facility in summer only (June 4 to September 26, 2026). Overnight guests can stay in one of three unheated, fully enclosed bunkroom areas with a total capacity of 52; reservations are strongly recommended.

In the full-service season, meals are included for overnight stays: breakfast and dinner are served family-style, and lunch isn’t included. The hut is carry in/carry out for all trash and recyclables, quiet hours run from 9:30pm–6:30am, and there’s no Wi‑Fi and no electrical outlets with limited cell reception. Staff are on site during the full-service period, and the hut does not offer a self-service option; it also cannot be used as an emergency shelter during the winter.
